Saucal has a strong expertise in their craft, specifically WordPress and it’s interactions.

In my experience I’ve found the only way to hire a developer for anything relating to WordPress development is if that developer has a strong background in the WordPress codex. For instance, while we are rolling out an integration between forms built on our WordPress site and Campaign Monitor, Saucal was able to utilize their knowledge of WordPress in order to navigate the pitfalls and possibilities of this integration.

I’ll tell you this much, we’ve taken care of all the leads that have come in on the new site, and got every contract but one. It’s the busiest year on record and the phone wont stop ringing. We’ve been getting two new calls per week for the last three months straight. There are thirty-two projects on the “current board”, eighteen have already been completed, for a total of fifty for this year. That’s the amount we did last year, and its only April. The new site has really honed in the buyers.

Where were you born?

Yellowknife, NT, Canada

What was your first experience with the internet? What year was that?

I remember my teachers hyping up the net in like ’94, selling the dream that you can talk to anyone, anywhere in the world. It seemed crazy at the time, and all I imagined were satellites and pen pals. In ’96 I got dial-up at home, and it was on!

Growing up in the NWT, we had something called North of 60, which was like a territory wide Facebook. I was hooked.  I also got into lot’s of trouble. 🙂

Where in the world do you like to work?

Sitting at my desk at home, or perched on my laptop in an Airbnb. Or, cruising the streets and using my phone. I love being in modern, warm spaces with lots of windows.

Where in the world are you now?

62°21’50.82″N 114°25’57.19″W (look it up, good times!)

What led you to work at Saucal?

For the freedom to work where I want, and to put my focus on internet technology.

What’s the most interesting challenge you’ve worked on since joining?

If I wrote this a year or two ago, I’d probably say thinking outside the box – probably Mojito, or Second Screen for U/E.  Now, I’d say it’s the nuances of running a successful business.

What is your favourite activity outside of work?

That’s easy – travel & bitcoin.

What is your favourite food/beverage?

Meat and veggies.

Favourite quote or song lyrics they live by (or) that best reps you?

“When I was dead broke, man I couldn’t picture this
50 inch screen, money green leather sofa
Got two rides, a limousine with a chauffeur
Phone bill about two G’s flat
No need to worry, my accountant handles that”

Most interesting story or factoid about you?

At age of 12, I was suspended from school for accessing sensitive data about teaching staff. The RCMP nearly got involved until my parents assured them there was so much more to me than just hacking. This proved true two years later, when one of my websites was featured during a live broadcast of MuchMusic, Canada’s original version of MTV.

Where were you born?

Ottawa, ON, Canada

What was your first experience with the internet? What year was that?

My first experience on the internet was with an early portal of AOL (previously known as America Online). It was what the internet shouldn’t have become, and sometimes fear what it may be again… centralized portals for any of your web activities.

Where in the world do you like to work?

Almost anywhere. 5 months ago I was in Calgary, Canada, then moved to Berlin for a few months, ate lots of tapas in Barcelona then going to find some business zen in Portugal. You can say I am addicted to seeing new things and experiencing new people and cultures. I speak several languages which also helps me connect with many people.

Where in the world are you now?

Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

What led you to work at Saucal?

I was in Ottawa where I started and ran a hostel, it was lovely but after living in hospitality almost my entire life, I decided I needed a new challenge. One day, I think around Canada day, Mitch and I chatted about how we would love to start a company together. A few months later I moved to Calgary and not long after Mitch came to visit me. About 6 months went by and Mitch was living in the home office. Saucal was born.

What’s the most interesting challenge you’ve worked on since joining?

Most definitely 3 projects stand out to me since our start. Our first mini project that we decided to do was silly, but taught us a lot about market research as well as viral marketing. It was a random video chat site which connected people from all over the world. Very quickly in a few weeks we gained ten’s of thousands of visitors. We did decide to shut it down shortly after as people we’re becoming silly on our service. Soon after, we created a DIY website builder called Mojito. It allows small businesses to create amazing websites with little startup money. What I am proud of, was that our great team was able to create a much more seamless and simple WordPress experience. It taught us the fundamentals of WordPress itself, making us very specialized in that technology. The most interesting challenge I engaged in was creating our Bitcoin merchant tools. We created an awesomely simple Point of Sale system for businesses to accept Bitcoin as well as easy to use plugins for popular shopping carts. Shortly after we licensed our product to one of Canada’s major exchanges.

What is your favourite activity outside of work?

I love to go for a great dinner with my wife & have a few pints with my best friends Mitch and Matt.

What is your favourite food/beverage?

Spaghetti Bolognese!

Favourite quote or song lyrics they live by (or) that best reps you?

“Whoop Whoop! That’s the sound of the police.”

Most interesting story or factoid about you?

I worked for Sony BMG & helped several producers with creating everything from beats to melodies. I also got arrested twice in one day completely randomly by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I have the best and worst luck at the same time. I almost bought a flight on the most recent German Wings crash in the French Alps. It gives me a new outlook on things.

Where were you born?

Bell Ville, Argentina

What was your first experience with the internet? What year was that?

I guess it was around the year 2000. I was 10 years old, and most of what I did was download small games, or mods to games I was playing at the time. It wasn’t until around 2003/4 that I had my first contact with a web programming language, when I was trying to set up a signup page for a MMORPG game server I had for the cybercafe i worked on at the time (after school of course, lol). I didn’t have any idea of PHP at the time, or ASP. But I did everything I could to get it up, and find a way to change the stock web files I managed to get from online forums.

Where in the world do you like to work?

I love to work from home, in stuff I like. Having breaks whenever I need them, and continuing when I have the necessary focus to do so.

It takes off part of the stress.

Where in the world are you now?

Córdoba, Argentina

What led you to work at Saucal?

Well, you know the story (no, you probably don’t, but lets say Matias has known Mitch and Dom for a while, now). The good old nacho contacted us. And since that time, one project came after the other.

What’s the most interesting challenge you’ve worked on since joining?

Hmm, I guess the most interesting challenge I had to overcome was Mojito.

I wouldn’t know how much I know about WordPress now if it wasn’t for it, that’s for sure.

What is your favourite activity outside of work?

I watch a lot of TV Shows, and also enjoy watching movies.

I’m also a gamer, so whenever I get the chance I catch the gamepad and start up a good game. They’re in a way like interactive movies for me (in some cases at least), some others are just terribly fun.

I also like spending time with friends, enjoy a good “asado” (our own version of barbecue here in Argentina), and have fun with the people I care about.

What is your favourite food/beverage?

My favourite food would be any sort of pasta. But as an Argentinian, I also enjoy a good Asado, joined with some Fernet (a drink, more info here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernet).

My first experience was in 1999. It was when I still in my middle school. At that time, internet access was a luxury thing in our country, it was too expensive to own it in our own home. So we got a thing called warnet (stands for warung internet, literally internet cafe).

Just like any other boys at that age, my motivation to use Internet was to access pornography sites and chatting via IRC. The average speed of the internet at that year in our country was no faster than 8kBps. Can you imagine the struggle to access porn at that speed?

Who you are? What are a few key points that make you, you?

I am a human. I want to help people with any possible resources I have with me.
